Honor Bands provide an opportunity for students to participate in a musical experience that they will never forget. Musicians from different communities, or even different states, audition to be in these prestigious bands. The selected students are given challenging pieces and only a day or two to learn them before they perform at each of the five Honor Bands. Capitol Section was held in Sacramento. NorCal took place in Chico and All Northern was in Stockton. All State was held in Fresno. Last but certainly not least, The Music For All National Honor Band of America performed in Indianapolis.
Five of Oak Ridge High School’s outstanding young musicians, directed by Mr. Paul W. Varoff, were selected to participate in this year’s Honor Bands. Brian Kim (senior, clarinet) played in the Capitol Section and NorCal Honor Bands. Lindsey Kim (senior, flute) performed at NorCal and National Honor Band of America. Alex Meyers (junior, tuba) played at Capitol Section. Stephen Bailey (junior, trumpet) performed at Capitol Section, All Northern and NorCal. Jacob Wellman (sophomore, bassoon) was selected for Capitol Section, NorCal, All Northern, All State and National Honor Band of America. Being selected for these amazing performances is quite an accomplishment. You can hear these talented musicians and many others at Prism Concert April 9th & 10th at Oak Ridge High School.
